RoundUp

Got a note from a producer last week to do a freelance project. I was really excited it because I’ve putting for the energy and effort and prayer towards the “writing” thing. Funny – the email came a day before my original leave date to exit corporate Americas.  So, it was an offer to do a 3 week junior writer gig at a major T.V. network – how hot is that, right? However, initially the producer told me I could do while working my day job but then when I talked to the production accountant she informed me that they wanted someone to come in. My heart broke. It was a great opportunity but I couldn’t sacrifice my day job for 3 weeks.

Then I thought, perhaps this is where I need to leap out on faith and take the assignment and freelance from here on out, but then I said no, this is not about faith this is about practicality right now. So, I declined it. However, she said “you know you did great work for us last time and we haven’t forgotten about you, so if not this project we WILL be calling you for something else.” How awesome was that!  I realized the important of taking chances – I did that last year – but I also realized the importance of making wise decisions too.  So, I’m glad to have the confirmation that I’m on their radar and my work was good enough to be recommended for another project. That’s almost better than getting the job:almost! HA

 Sunday

I ran 17 miles!!! Can you believe it? The long run that I’ve wanted to do I was finally able to do, only I got terribly sick afterwards. Since its been a couple of days I realize that major dehydration caused my inability to hold food down -for lack of a better word- and the nausea I felt.  I mean 3 hr and 15 is a significant chunk of time to put your body through a rigorous routine especially since I wasn’t able to replenish my body with any fluids during the process. I’ve pretty much trained myself on a 7 or 10 mile run to complete it without water but 17 was just too long to go without hydrating.

I really should have listened to my body after the 4th loop and stopped but I pushed past what I thought was a little tiredness on to a 5th loop. My body literally gave out because I didn’t have any energy to run although I wasn’t soar, my knees weren’t aching and my body felt fine. I felt like a well-tuned car out of gas.   So the next long run I take I’m going to have to put on my runner’s belt and take a little bottle of Gatorade with me.  Later that day I went to my friends for the SuperBowl party. They were going to have the usual chips and dip, pizza and beers. I knew I couldn’t have any of that. So, I had some fruit before I went, juiced beets, carrots, spinach, celery and an apple and it tasted pretty good. Very refreshing I might add.

Then I got a veggie sandwich from next door and a chamomile tea. By the time I got to their house – just in time for kickoff I was headed to the bathroom for a royal exit of everything I ate. I was not feeling good at all. So I laid down in their den and my friend made me some Peruvian tea that is good for settling stomachs. So I had some of that and it was really good. Then she made me a piece of white toast – you know how long its been since I had white bread! – but it did the trick. By half time I was able to come upstairs and see Tom Petty, sit through the arrival fresh cheesy pepperoni pizza smelling up the house. I was glad to be smelling that versus the homemade buffalo wings which seemed to add to my nausea.

By the end of the night, I was able to eat a few chips – the salt tasted good and my veggie sandwiches because I felt like I was negative on vitals. I caught a cab with my friends who were going all the way to the upper west side so that worked out perfect.  See, for the first time in a long time, running wasn’t fun or exhilarating for me on Sunday because I got so sick. I don’t want to feel that way again, at least not if I can avoid it. Today, I have my Gatorade right next to me, I’ve almost downed my first liter and a half of water. Had two sources of protein already and I WILL be juicing when I get home tonight. Otherwise, I’m feeling a lot better than I was two days and its good to be  back to my conversable self.

Oh, side note, I made fresh salmon on Saturday, it was pretty good – if I say so myself.
