Butter Sat 1.26.8

It’s restaurant week in New York. So this week and next week you can have pre- fixed lunch and dinner on the inexpensive side.

This is one thing I love about New York. Since New York is a city brimming with great places to eat how could you NOT becoming a foodie – a person who loves any and all things dealing with the tactile pleasure of eating.

So, I went to a place called butter with a friend of mine who moved here last year last night. It’s been a while since I’ve seen her and although I was excited to catch up I must admit I was a little apprehensive how it was going to go since we haven’t really connected in a minute.

Butter is located in the village, right above Soho.  It has naturally colored rooms that make you feel you are on the set of a romantic movie which costs 6 figures to make. The staff was pleasant and gave out ample smiles.

I arrived at 5:45 on the dot, our reservation was at 6. As you can see I’m working on being on time. Once I got inside, I checked my coat – ooh la la. Then, I opted to not have a “drink” at the bar while I waited for my friend as the maitre’d suggested.  I knew I wanted to run in the morning and besides I already budgeted out money for the mal and a nice sparkling water to drink and really didn’t want to go beyond as this was pretty much my splurge after a long work week.

Once my friend showed up she was like, oh my goodness you’re beautiful. I shooed her away like “what, me? U talking to me?” and she said I love your hair you look great.  And I felt like Wow!!! I mean my Mohawk is growing in nicely especially after I shaped it so I guess I was looking spiffy.   She looked great too. She’s dating someone and it shows. She seems really happy and I’m happy for her. Yes, we talked about love and all that wonderful jazz – and I’m happy to say that I don’t remain bitter and that my heart is in a really good place and I’ll keep it at that.

It was nice to be in this beautiful setting connecting with someone that I realize is important to me. We talked of course about our immediate futures as in 2008 as we had fresh wheat bread and a minuscule square slice of a cornbread with the bus boy scraping the linen clean quickly afterwards.

Then we both had the same appetizer, shrimp over a small bed of parsley – it was so good. We must of covered her job and my job in that time frame and once dinner came, Grouper fish for me with Yukon potatoes, duck for her and sweet potatoes (we traded potatoes) we discussed her new love and the love of my life.  Doing this interval I just thought about how a lot of my friends are finding their complete happiness, their partner in life and that makes me happy.

The food was well done and it felt so light inside of me I was very pleased. It’s going to be my new place to take visitors for when they want to splurge on a night out.  Now, dessert was worth being last. I chose the mango sorbet and accompanying shortbread stick. Those scoops must have been spooned with a mini-scooper. I was okay with it because it was just enough, although you can never have enough dessert, right. The colors were soothing and the taste agreed with my mouth as if we were best friends with not a thing between us.

And once the night was over, my friend and I didn’t have anything between us either. In fact I found out we’ll be seeing each other in February at a little function we’re both invited too and her new beau.

What was cool too is that she told me that someone mentioned her to me in the context of people and their dreams and the passion it takes to pursue them. He said of me, “snow that’s someone with passion.” She agreed and I humbly took the compliment.
